Evita se Perron was founded by Pieter-Dirk Uys in 1995 when he converted the original Darling railway station into a theatre
venue. The Perron has gained international fame as the home of Uys’s most famous character, Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout, and as
a theatre, an events venue and for its museum/nauseam and ‘Boerassic Park’.

During the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020 The Perron faced the probability of having to close its doors permanently like many
other businesses. Darling Sweet & Swartland Kitchen owners, Hentie van der Merwe and Frits van Ryneveld, realised how sad it
would be for this iconic venue to close – not only for Darling, but for the history of South Africa.

They contacted Tannie Evita and in August 2020 Hentie and Frits became the new owners of Evita se Perron. Evita se Perron
will always be the home of Tannie Evita and is now also the home of Darling Sweet & Swartland Kitchen.

HOME OF TANNIE
EVITA BEZUIDENHOUT

Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout, the most famous character
of world-renowned Pieter-Dirk Uys, is fondly known as
the most famous white woman in South Africa.
Evangelie Poggenpoel from Bethlehem despite her
humble roots became an actress and then married a
National Party minister, Oom Hasie Bezuidenhout.
Favoured by the Broederbond, Mrs Bezuidenhout
